Sambar Recipe | How to make Sambar at Home | South Indian Sambar Recipe
Materials
- 1/2 cup Split Pea/Toor Dal
- 3 cup Water
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- Chopped Beans
- 1 Chopped Carrot
- Drum Stick
- 4 tbsp Bottle Gourds
- 1 Brinjal
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp Black Gram/ Urad Dal
- 1 tbsp Curry Leaves
- 2 pinch Asafoetida
- 3 Dry Red chilli
- 1 Finely Chopped onion
- 3 to 4 Garlic Cloves
- 2 Chopped Green chilli
- 2 Finely Chopped Tomato
- 1 tbsp Onion Patels
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red chilli
- 3 tbsp Tamarind Pulp water
- 1 tbsp Crushed Jaggery
- 2 tbsp Sambar Masala
- 1/2 tsp Water
- Salt as per taste
Instructions
- To make Hotel Style authentic Sambar first take 1/2 cup of split pigeon pea/Toor dal and soak it into the water for 1/2 hour.
- Now place a pan on flame and add soaked Pigeon pea, 3 cups of water, and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder into it.
- Now take a small steel bowl and add 2 tbsp of chopped beans, 1 chopped carrot, 7 to 8 pieces of drum stick, 4 tbsp of chopped bottle gourd, 1 brinjal to it.
- Now place this vegetable bowl into the mid cooker.
- Now add 2 drops of oil in dal to avoid water oozing out.
- Now close the lid and cook for 4 to 5 whistles on medium flame.
- After 4 to 5 whistles everything is cooked well.
- Now place a pan on flame and add 2 tbsp of oil and heat.
- After oil heat well then add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tsp of black gram/ urad dal, 1 tbsp of curry leaves. 2 pinches of Asafoetida.
- Now add 3 dry red chilies and saute everything well on medium flame until golden.
- Now add 1 finely chopped onion, and saute well until transparent.
- Now add 3 to 4 chopped garlic cloves, 2 finely chopped green chili, and saute everything on medium flame.
- Now add 2 finely chopped tomatoes and roast well.
- After tomatoes cooked well then add 1 tbsp of onion petals and fry well.
- Now add 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of Kashmiri red chili powder, and mix well.
- Now add 3 tbsp of tamarind pulp water and mix everything well.
- Now add 1 tbsp of crushed jaggery and mix well.
- Now add all cooked vegetables and roast well.
- Now add 2 tbsp of sambar masala powder and mix well and cook until it starts releasing the oil.
- Now add cooked dal/pea to it and mix well.
- Now add 1/2 cup of water and salt as per taste and mix everything well and boil.
- Now turn off the flame and your delicious Sambar is ready and you can enjoy it.

How to make Sambar – Step By Step

10 – Now add three dry red chilies and saute everything well on medium flame until golden.
11 – Now add one finely chopped onion, and saute well until transparent.
12 – Now add 3 to 4 chopped garlic cloves, two finely chopped green chili, and saute everything on medium flame.
13 – Now add two finely chopped tomatoes and roast well.
14 – After tomatoes are cooked well, then add 1 tbsp of onion petals and fry well.
15 – Now add 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of Kashmiri red chili powder, and mix well.
16 – Now add 3 tbsp of tamarind pulp water and mix everything well.
17 – Now add 1 tbsp of crushed jaggery and mix well.
18 – Now add all cooked vegetables and roast well.
19 – Now add 2 tbsp of sambar masala powder, mix well, and cook until it starts releasing the oil.

21 – Now add 1/2 cup of water and salt as per taste and mix everything well and boil.
22 – Now turn off the flame, and your delicious Sambar is ready, and you can enjoy it.
