Today I am going to share with you a recipe for making soft spongy dhokla.

  • 2 cup Gram Flour 
  • 1/4 tbsp. Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida 
  • 2 cup Water 
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp Citric Acid
  • 4 tbsp Sugar 
  • 1 tsp Ginger & green chili Paste 
  • 2 tbsp Oil 
  • 1 tbsp Baking soda


  • First of all take a bowl and filter it with the sieve and take 2 cups gram flour.
  •  Now you add 1/4 tbsp. turmeric, 1/4 tbsp. asafoetida, ginger-garlic, and green chili paste and mix everything well.
  •  Now take another bowl and take 2 cups of water in it and just add 2 tbsp. salt, citric acid, 4 tbsp. sugar and mix everything well.
  • Now put this water slowly inside the gram flour and keep stirring it.
  • Now you add 2 tbsp. of oil to it and mix it well and then leave it to sat for 10 minutes.
  • Now you take a cake tin and brush oil on its surface.
  • Now put a pan on the gas and take 2 cups of water inside it and also put a stand in it.
  • Just after 10 minutes, add 1 tbsp. of baking soda to the gram flour and mix it well in the same dimension.
  •  Now you put this batter in the cake tin and let it cook in a pan for 15 to 20 minutes after applying the lid.
  • Now, after 15 minutes, turn off the gas and let the dhokla cook for 5 minutes.
  • Now you put a knife in it and check whether it is cooked or not.
  • Now take it out on a plate.
  • Now place a pan on the gas and put 2 tbsp. of oil in it and heat it.
  • After the oil is heated, add 1 tbsp. mustard seeds, 2 pinch asafoetida 4-5 slit green chilies, curry leaves and fry them lightly.
  • Now you add 2 cups of water to it and also add 1 tbsp. salt, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 1 tbsp. turmeric powder, and boil it.
  • Now when the water boils, leave it to cool.
  • Now cut the dhokla and put the tempering water over it.
  • Your dhokla is ready now and you can enjoy them completely.

Instant Dhokla Recipe – Step By Step

1 – To make perfect Khaman Dhokla, first take a bowl and place a strainer on It.

2 – Now into the strainer, add 2 cups of Gram flour, and sieve it well into the bowl.

3 – Now, into a bowl, add two pinches of turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp of asafoetida, 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, and mix well.

5 – Now into the water, add 2 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of citric acid( In Place of citric acid, you can use 1 tbsp of lemon juice or 1 tbsp of vinegar), 4 tbsp of sugar, and mix everything well.
6 – Now, little by little, add water into gram as required flour, mix well, and prepare a pourable consistency batter.

8 – Now cover the batter and let it rest for 10 minutes.
9 – Now take cake-tin or bowl and grease it with oil.
10 – Now, place a pan on flame, put a stand into it, add 2 cups of water, and boil well.

12 – Now add 1 tsp of baking soda and mix well in one direction until it turns fluffy and light colour.

16 – After 15 minutes, turn off the flame and leave it without removing the lid for 5 minutes.

18 – Not for Tadka(Tampering), place a pan on flame, add 2 tbsp of oil, and heat well.

20 – Now add water as required, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tbsp of sugar, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, one pinch of turmeric powder, and mix well and boil.
