In this post, I am going to share an easy and simple recipe to make amazing Moong dal Chakli at your Home step by step.
So without wasting any time let’s start this recipe.
What is Chakli?
Chakli is a famous snack in most Indian states made from flours of rice, Bengal gram (brown chickpea) and black gram (urad daal).
It has many varieties, depending on the types and dimensions of flours used. A similar snack typically made without the Bengal gram flour, Murukku is also sometimes called “chakli”.
Other Lenguage Names Of Chakli – Marathi: चकली chakali, Odisha: ଦାନ୍ତକଲି Dantkali Tamil: முறுக்கு murukku, Kannada: ಚಕ್ಕುಲಿ chakkuli, Gujarati: ચકરી chakri, Telugu: చక్రాలు chakralu, or జంతికలు jantikalu and Konkani: Chakri or Chakkuli.
Ingredients – Chakli is made from rice flour, Bengal gram (chickpea) and black gram (urad dal). Other ingredients include:
- Coriander seed powder.
- Cumin seed (jeera) powder.
- Sesame seeds.
- Red pepper powder.
- Turmeric powder.
- Salt.
- Asafoetida powder and oil.
Some variations also include green gram (moong) and pigeon pea (tuar/arhar) instead of black gram.

Easy Chakli Recipe | How to make Chakli at Home | Murukku Recipe
Materials
- 1 cup Rice flour
- 1/4 cup Moong Dal
- 1/2 tsp Ajwain
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt as per taste
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
Instructions
- To make crispy and testy Chakli, first take one cup of rice flour, 1/4 cup of Moong dal.
- Now, place a pan on flame, add Moong dal to it, and dry roast on a medium flame for 1 to minutes.
- After 2 minutes, turn off the flame and let it cool.
- Now, take a grinding jar, add Moong dal to it, grind well, and make a fine powder.
- Now, take a wide bowl and add 1 cup of rice flour and moong dal powder to it.
- Now add 2 tbsp of gram flour, 1/2 tsp of carom seeds, 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, 1 tsp of red chili powder, salt per taste, 1 tsp of asafoetida, 1 tsp of sesame seeds.
- Now add 2 tbsp of hot oil and mix everything well with your hands.
- Now add 2 tsp of turmeric powder and mix well.
- Now add hot water as required little by little, mix well, and prepare a soft dough.
- Now, take a chakli maker.
- Now fill chakli dough into chakli maker and close it.
- Now, take a butter paper and grease it with oil or butter; you can also use a plate.
- Now, prepare Spiral chakli with the help of a chakli maker.
- Now, if you don’t have a chakli maker, take a small part of the dough and roll it thin.
- Now, make it like the following image.
- Now, place a pan on flame and add oil for deep frying and heat well.
- After the oil is hot, add prepared Chakli one by one and fry well low medium flame.
- After Chakli turns golden, transfer them into a plate and fry the next batch.
- Now your Crispy and testy Instant Moong dal Chakli is completely ready, and you can enjoy it.
