Whenever a festival comes in India, everybody makes sweets and among them, Gujiya is a very popular dish which people like very much.

So let’s know about this recipe.

What is Gujiya and Its History?

Gujiya is a very famous sweet Indian sweet and in the Holi festival, everyone likes to eat Gujiya.

Gujiya (Hindi: गुजिया), a karanji (Marathi: करंजी) or Kajjikayalu in Telugu is a sweet deep-fried dumpling, native to the Indian subcontinent, made with suji (semolina) or maida (all-purpose flour) stuffed with a mixture of sweetened khoa (milk solids; also called mawa) and dried fruits, and fried in ghee.

The earliest mention of Gujiya dates back to the 13th century when a jaggery-honey mixture was covered with wheat flour and was sun-dried.

What are the ingredients of Gujiya?

  • All-Purpose Flour – 2 Cups
  • Salt – 2 Pinch
  • Ghee – 1/4 Cups
  • Warm Water as required
  • Semolina – 4 tbsp
  • Mawa – 200 Gms
  • Desiccated Coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped cashew – 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped almonds – 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped Pista – 1 tbsp
  • Raisins – 1 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • sugar Powder – 85 gms
  • cooking oil for deep fry

In this post, I am going to share a very easy recipe for making Gujiya with you, which you can make very little stuff.

Materials

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 pinch Salt 
  • 1/4 cup Ghee 
  • Warm Water as required
  • 4 tbsp Semolina 
  • 200 gms Mawa 
  • 2 tbsp Desicated Coconut 
  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped cashew
  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped almonds 
  • 1 tbsp Finely chopped Pista 
  • 1 tbsp Raisins 
  • 1/2 tbsp Cardamom powder 
  • 85 gms sugar Powder
  • cooking oil for deep fry

Instructions

  • To make Gujiya, first of all, take a wide bowl and add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 pinch salt, 1/4 cup ghee and mix everything well.
  • Now add water (warm water) to it and prepare a hard dough.
  • Now dust the dough with a wet cloth and keep it for 20 minutes.
  • Now put a pan on the gas and heat it.
  • After the pan is hot, add 4 tbsp of semolina and fry till it becomes golden.
  •  Now take out the semolina on a plate.
  • Now you add 200 grams of mawa to the pan and cook it till it turns golden.
  •  Now take out the mawa in a bowl and let it cool.
  •  After the Mawa cool add roasted semolina to the bowl, add 2 tbsp of desiccated coconut, 2 tbsp of finely chopped cashew, 2 tbsp of finely chopped almonds, 1 tbsp of pistachio, 1 tbsp of raisins, and mix everything well.
  • Now add 1/2 tbsp of cardamom powder, 1 cup of sugar powder, and mix everything well.
  • Now Gujiya stuffing is ready.
  • Now take the small size dough and make small balls frow all dough.
  •  Now you dust the dough with a wet cloth.
  • Now roll to a slightly thick poori and cover it with a dry cloth.
  •  Now take any type of gujiya Mould and place the prepared poori on the mold.
  • Now grease all sides with water and add 1 tbsp of filling in it.
  • Now close the mold and press all sides and remove excess dough.
  • Now cover the gujiya with a cloth.
  • Second way to make Gujiye – place prepared poori on a platform and grees on edges with water.
  • Now add 1 tbsp of filling to it and close with the other end and press edges and Cut edges with a cutter.
  •  Now cover the gujiya with a cloth and follow the same process with other dough and make all gujiya.
  • Now place a kadhai on gas and add oil for deep frying and heat it on medium flame.
  • Now close the mold and press all sides and remove excess dough.
  • After the oil is heated add gujiya in it and fry until it became golden.
  • Once the Gujia is fried, take them out on a plate.
  • Now your delicious Gujiya is ready and you can enjoy them.

Gujiya Recipe – Step By Step

1 – To make Gujiya, first of all, take a wide bowl and add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 pinch salt, 1/4 cup ghee and mix everything well.

3 – Now dust the dough with a wet cloth and keep it for 20 minutes.
4 – Now put a pan on the gas and heat it.
5 – After the pan is hot, add 4 tbsp of semolina and fry till it becomes golden.

6 – Now take out the semolina on a plate.
7 – Now you add 200 grams of Mawa to the pan and cook it till it turns golden.

8 – Now take out the Mawa in a bowl and let it cool.
9 – After the Mawa cool add roasted semolina to the bowl, add 2 tbsp of desiccated coconut, 2 tbsp of finely chopped cashew, 2 tbsp of finely chopped almonds, 1 tbsp of pistachio, 1 tbsp of raisins, and mix everything well.
10 – Now add 1/2 tbsp of cardamom powder, 1 cup of sugar powder, and mix everything well.

11 – Now Gujiya stuffing is ready.
12 – Now take the small size dough and make small balls frow all dough.
13 – Now you dust the dough with a wet cloth.
14 – Now roll to a slightly thick poori and cover it with a dry cloth.
15 – Now take any type of gujiya Mould and place the prepared poori on the mold.

17 – Second way to make Gujiye – place prepared poori on a platform and grees on edges with water.
18 – Now add 1 tbsp of filling to it and close with the other end and press edges and Cut edges with a cutter.

19 – Now cover the gujiya with a cloth and follow the same process with other dough and make all gujiya.
