South Indian Style Rasam Vada Recipe | How to make Rasam Vada at Home | Rasam Recipe
Materials
For Rasam
- Boiled Tomatoes – 4
- Ginger – 1 Inch
- Garlic Cloves – 6 to 7
- Chopped Onion – 1
- Green Chillies – 2
- Curry Leaves
- Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
- Split Black Gram – 1 tbsp
- Asafoetida – 2 pinch
- Dry Red Chilli – 2
- Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
- Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
- Rasam Powder – 2 tsp
- Tamarind water – 1 cup
- Toor /Arhar Daal – 1/2 Cup
- water – 2 to 3 Cup
- Jaggery (Optional)
- Chopped Coriander
For Vada
- Split Black Gram – 1 cup
- Ice Cube – 1-3
- Chopped Ginger – 1 tsp
- Chopped Green Chilli – 2
- Salt as per taste
- Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Chopped Coriander Leaves
Instructions
Rasam Recipe
- To make Perfect Rasam take a grinding jar and four boiled and peeled tomatoes.
- Now add 1-inch ginger, 6-7 garlic cloves, one chopped onion, two chopped green chilli, curry leaves, 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, and grind everything well and make a coarse paste.
- Now, place a pan on medium flame, add 2 tbsp of oil, and heat well.
- Now add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tbsp of split black gram, two pinch asafoetida, curry leaves, two dry red chilies, and saute everything well.
- After the mix turns little pink, add prepared tomato mix into the pan and mix well; close the lid and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- After 2-3 minutes, check the tomatoes and add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 2 tsp of Kashmiri red chilli powder, 1 tsp of cumin powder, 1 tsp of coriander powder, 2 tsp of rasam powder, salt as per taste, and mix everything well and cook.
- After Masala is roasted well, add 1 cup of tamarind water, mix well, and cook.
- Now add 1/2 cup of mashed Toor daal and mix well.
- After mixing everything well, add 2-3 cups of water and mix well.
- After 8 minutes, turn off the flame.
- Now, for tampering, place a small pan on flame and add 1 tsp of oil and heat.
- Now add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds, two pinches of asafoetida, curry leaves, one red chilli.
- Now, turn off the flame, transfer the tampering to the Rasam, and garnish the rasam with chopped coriander.
- Now cook the rasam for 2 minutes again on medium flame.
- Now your Rasam is completely ready.
Vada Recipe
- To make Perfect Vada, first take 1 cup of soaked Split Black Gram( Soak it into the water for 3-4 hours after 3-4 hours, strain the water completely).
- Now, take a grinding jar and add soaked dal into it.
- Now add three ice cubes, grind well on the pulse, prepare a coarse paste, and transfer the batter into a bowl.
- Now add 1 tsp of chopped ginger, salt as per taste, 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, finely chopped coriander.
- Now, whisk well in one direction with your hands.
- Now, take water in a bowl and drop a little batter into it; if the batter does not sit on the bowl’s surface, this means the batter is perfect for making Vada.
- Now, place a pan on flame and add oil for deep fry and heat well.
- Now dip your hands into the water, prepare vada with batter, add them into hot oil, and fry well until golden and crisp.
- After Vada turns golden, transfer them to a plate and fry the next batch.
- Now your fluffy Vada is completely ready.
Serving
- To serve Rasam Vada take a bowl and add Vada to it.
- Now add Rasam into the bowl and garnish it with chopped coriander.
- Now your Rasam Vada is completely ready, and you can enjoy it.

6 – After 2-3 minutes, check the tomatoes and add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 2 tsp of Kashmiri red chilli powder, 1 tsp of cumin powder, 1 tsp of coriander powder, 2 tsp of rasam powder, salt as per taste, and mix everything well and cook.

8 – Now add 1/2 cup of mashed Toor daal and mix well.
